You will love the texture and clean lines in this interesting Layered Brick crochet stitch pattern!
The Layered Brick crochet stitch is wonderful stitch pattern with lots of texture and opportunity for using multiple colours.
All of the texture can be found on the front of the fabric. The pattern is worked as a solid piece so it would be an excellent candidate for a larger, cozy project such as a crochet afghan.
It is a longer repeat for the pattern, but don’t let that deter you. The pattern is still fairly easy to catch onto and you will love the end result.

The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in two colours labelled A and B. You will alternate between these colours throughout the project. In the video tutorial below I will carry my yarn up the side so that I do not have to fasten off after each colour change. But depending on your project, you may have to fasten off and weave in the ends if there is no other way to hide them such as under an edging.
Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in two colours labelled A and B.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
To begin, with colour A, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need a multiple of six stitches for your foundation chain.
For example, with colour A, ch 30.
Row One:
Sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two:
Yo sl st in the 1st st and in each st across. Change to colour B in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Three:
With colour B, working in the blo across, yo sl st in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Four:
Working in the blo across, yo sl st in each st across. Change to colour A in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Five:
With colour A, working in the blo, yo sl st in each of the 1st 5 sts, *exdc in the front 2 loops of the next st 3 rows below, yo sl st in each of the next 5 sts; Rpt from * across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Six:
Yo sl st in the 1st st and in each st across. Change to colour B. Ch 1, turn.
Row Seven:
With colour B, working in the blo, yo sl st in the 1st st and in each st across.
Row Eight:
Working in the blo, yo sl st in the 1st st and in each st across. Change to colour A. Ch 1, turn.
Row Nine:
With colour A, working in the blo across, yo sl st in each of the 1st 2 sts, *exdc in the front 2 loops of the next st 3 rows below, yo sl st in each of the next 5 sts; Rpt from * across ending with a yo sl st in each of the final 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row Ten:
Yo sl st in the 1st st and in each st across. Change to colour B. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern, repeat rows 3-10. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
