The Crossed Double and Post Stitch crochet pattern is a beautiful textured design which really shows well when worked in multiple colours.

When I came across this crochet stitch I immediately fell in love with it! This stitch has it all: A beautiful texture, an easy two row repeat and it looks great in multiple colours!

There are so many possibilities with this Crossed Double and Post stitch. I look forward to using it in the near future!

There are two main stitches that make up this pattern. The first is a crossed double crochet stitch and the second is a front post single crochet stitch. You will work them in alternating rows and, as shown below, in two different colours.

The Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in two different colours. It is a worsted weight yarn. You could also work this pattern in a single colour or in more than two. I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook. In the video tutorial beow you will see me working with a Birchwood Crochet Hook by Rowan. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Crossed Double and Post Stitch Crochet Pattern:

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Ch – Chain Stitch
Dc – Double Crochet
Fpsc – Front Post Single Crochet
Rpt – Repeat
Sc – Single Crochet Stitch
Sl St – Slip Stitch
Yo – Yarn Over

Pattern Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in two different colours: A and B.

This pattern is written in American crochet terms.

To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch you will need an odd number of stitches for your foundation chain.

For example, with colour A, ch 31.

Row One:

Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st across. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Two:

Sk the next st, *dc in the next st, dc in the previous skipped st, sk the next st; Rpt from * across until one st remains, dc in the final st (top of your turning ch). Ch 1, turn.

Row Three:

Sc in the 1st st, sc in the next st, *fpsc around the post of the next st, sc in the next st; Rpt from * across, switch to colour B in the top of the final st. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Four:

With colour B, sk the next st, *dc in the next st, dc in the previous skipped st, sk the next st; Rpt from * across until one st remains, dc in the final st (top of your turning ch). Ch 1, turn.

Row Five:

Sc in the 1st st, sc in the next st, *fpsc around the post of the next st, sc in the next st; Rpt from * across, switch to colour A in the top of the final st. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, simply repeat rows two-five for the pattern. Fasten off, weave in your ends. (Note: Essentially you will be repeating rows two and three, alternating between two colours every second row).
