The Puff Blanket Stitch is a heavily textured crochet stitch that creates a solid fabric that would work wonderfully in blankets!

I always love texture in crochet blankets! That being said, this stitch does not have to be limited to them, but it can be used in a variety of projects where you wish to have dramatic texture.

The Puff Blanket Stitch is made up of a combination of fun, popular stitches including bobble and puff stitches.  The unique way that these stitches are worked together is what makes this stitch special!  I will show you below!

A textured crochet stitch for blankets

The Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in one colour. It is a worsted weight, 100% cotton yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm birchwood crochet hook by Rowan Yarns.  However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose, even experiment with stripes of colour!

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site, such as the Pyramid Lace Stitch | How to Crochet and pin this one for later!

Puff Blanket Crochet Stitch:

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Bobble – Bobble Stitch ([yo, insert your hook into the indicated st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops] 3 times, yo and draw through all the loops on your hook.  Bobble Stitch Made.

Dc – Double Crochet

Ch – Chain

Puff – Puff Stitch ([yo, insert your hook into the indicated st, yo and draw up a loop] 3 times, yo and draw through all the lps on your hook.  Puff Stitch made.)

Rpt – Repeat

Sc– Single Crochet

Yo – yarn over

To begin you will make a foundation chain.  For this pattern, you will need a multiple of two plus two stitches for your foundation chain (2+2).

For example, ch 24.

Row One:

Sc in 3rd ch from your hook and in each across, ch 2, turn.

Row Two:

Bobble st in next, puff back in 1st st working over top of the bobble, sk the next st,* bobble in the next st, puff working over the previous bobble and into the skiped st; * rpt across working the final bobble st in the final sc, ch 2, turn.

Row Three:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across working the final sc in the top of the final puff st, ch 2, turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows two and three.  Fasten off, weave in your ends.
