The crochet Barn Quilt Blankets crochet pattern book laying over a crochet blanket

If you enjoy working crochet blankets, I invite you to check out my book: Barn Quilt Blankets! It is a collection of five blanket crochet patterns that feature a beautiful geometric designs. The book is now available in both paperback and ebook formats on Amazon! You can read about it here: BARN QUILT BLANKETS

To create the stocking you will work a simple granny pentagon shape, simply fold the stocking and then work a row of single crochet to hold it all together. From the row of single crochet stitches I continued directly into a simple foundation chain hanger.

They are a joy to make – you won’t be able to make just one!

Begin by making a Pentagon Granny Square:

With Colour A, ch 4, sl st in the first st to make a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (Counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc into the centre of the ring, ch 2, [3 dc into the centre of the ring, ch 2] 4 times, join with a sl st in the top of ch-3.  Switch to colour B.  Fasten off colour A.  Ch 3, turn.  (15 sts)

Rnd 2: With colour B, [2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] into the same ch-2 sp, *ch 1, sk the next 3 dc, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] into the next ch-2 sp; Rpt from * around, ch 1, join with a sl st in the top of the starting ch-3.  Switch to colour A.  Fasten off colour B.  Ch 3, turn.

Rnd 3: With colour A, 2 dc into the same ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk the next 3 dc, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] into the next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk the next 3 dc, 3 dc in the next ch-1 sp; Rpt from * around, ch 1, join with a sl st in the top of the starting ch-3.  Ch 3, turn.

Rnd 4: 2 dc in the first ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk the next 3 dc, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] into the next ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk the next 3 dc, 3 dc in the next ch-1 sp] twice; Rpt from * around, ch 1, join with a sl st in the top of the starting ch-3.

Fasten off, weave in your ends.

Fold Granny Pentagon:

Take hold of one corner of the pentagon and fold it over so that it meets the opposite corner.  This will create a bit of a “L” shape.  The pointed end will be your stocking toe.

With colour A, join with a sl st at the pointed toe end of your stocking.  Ch 1, working through both sides of the stocking, sc in each dc and in each ch-1 sp along the bottom of the foot , work 1 sc in the ch-2 sp at the heel, and continue working sc up the side to the top of the stocking ending with a final sc in the top ch-2 sp.  Do not fasten off.

Hanger:

Ch 12, sl st back into the top of the sc at the top of the stocking.

Fasten off, weave in all ends.

NOTE: At this time, the toe of your stocking may still look a little pointed.  Simple poke the point of the toe into the middle of your stocking to shape.
