You will love the simplicity in this crochet Bowtie Stitch! It is worked by combining a few basic crochet stitches.

The most challenging part of the design will be it’s five row repeat, but even that I am sure you will get the hang of.  Essentially the stitch pattern is comprised of double crochet rows with chain stitches and single crochet stitches with chain stitches.  The “bow” in the pattern is created by working a single crochet, but over the row below and into the space two rows below.  This will gather all of the chain spaces together.

A Crochet stitch that looks as though it has little bows worked into it

The Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in one colour. It is a worsted weight, 100% cotton yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm birchwood crochet hook by Rowan Yarns.  However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose, even experiment with stripes of colour!

Bowtie Crochet Stitch:

Ch – Chain

Dc – Double Crochet

Rpt – Repeat

To begin you will make a foundation chain.  For this pattern, you will need a multiple of ten stitches plus two (10 + 2) for your foundation chain.

Ch 32

Row One:

Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each of the next 3 sts, ch 5, sk the next 3 sts, sc in each of the next 7 sts; Rpt from * across to the final 7 sts, sk the next 3 sts, sc in each of the final 4 sts.  Ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Two:

Dc in each of the next 3 sts, *ch 3, sk the next ch-5 sp, dc in each of the next 7 sts; Rpt from * across ending with a dc in each of the final 4 sts.  Ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Three:

Dc in each of the next 3 sts, *ch 2, sc in the ch-5 sp 2 rows below, ch 2, dc in each of the next 7 sts; Rpt from * across ending with a dc in each of the final 4 sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Four:

Sc in each of the 1st 4 sts, *ch 3, sk the next [ch-2, sc, ch-2], sc in each of the next 7 sts; Rpt from * across ending with an sc in each of the final 4 sts.  Ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Five:

Dc in each of the next 3 sts, *3 dc in the next ch-3 sp, dc in each of the next 7 sts; Rpt from * across ending with a dc in each of the final 4 sts.  Ch 1, turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 1 – 5 working the first sc of row one in the first sc.  Fasten off, weave in your ends.
