You’re going to love the airy feeling of the Afternoon Tea Crochet Throw!

The Afternoon Tea Crochet Throw is named after the colour of the yarn that I used in the photos, but I believe that it is very fitting for this particular blanket.  This blanket features an airy chevron design.  Rows of open work are interspaced between more solid rows.

The result is a lighter in weight crochet throw that would be great to throw over yourself any time of the year.

Caron Big Cakes or any Worsted Weight Yarn:

This blanket has been designed using the Caron Big Cakes by Yarnspirations.  You, of course, may substitute this yarn for any worsted weight yarn.  The Caron Big cakes are generous in their size at just over 600 yards per cake, and are a soft 100% acrylic yarn.  You will only need three cakes for this blanket.

My Crochet Hook:

For this design I used a 6 mm Wooden Streamline Hook in Ebony by Furls Crochet.

Afternoon Tea Crochet Throw Pattern:

Skill Level: Easy

Gauge: 11 sts x 8 rows of chevron stitch pattern = 4 inches

Finished Size: Approximately 45 x 75 inches

Yarn: Caron ® Big Cakes by Yarnspirations (100% Acrylic; 10.5 oz, 300 g; Approx. 603 yds, 551 m). Worsted/Medium Weight (4). 3 cakes of colour Afternoon Tea.

Hook: Size J/10 (6 mm) Hook. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Notions: Yarn Needle.

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Ch – Chain

Dc – Double Crochet

Rpt – Repeat

Sc – Single Crochet

Sk – Skip

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Tr – Triple Stitch

Yo – Yarn Over

Pattern Notes:

• Pattern is written in American English terms.
• Pattern is worked in rows.
• Weave in ends as needed.
• To change the size of your throw you will need a foundation chain with a multiple of 16 sts + 5.

Free Crochet Pattern:

Ch 277

Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from hook, * [sk the next ch, dc in the next ch] twice, dc in each of the next 3 chs, 5 dc in the next ch, dc in each of the next 4 chs, [sk the next ch, dc in the next ch] twice; rpt from * to the last ch, dc in the last ch.  Ch 1, turn.  

Row 2: Sc in each st across and in the top of your turning ch.  Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn.

Row 3: Sk the first st, dc in the next st, * sk the next st, dc in the next st, sk the next st, [dc in the next st, ch 1, sk the next st] twice, [dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc] in the next st, [ch 1, sk the next st, dc in the next st] twice, [sk the next st, dc in the next st] twice; rpt from * across to the last st, dc in the last st.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Sc in each st and ch sp across and in the top of your turning ch.  Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn. 

Row 5: Sk the first st, dc in the next st, *[sk the next st, dc in the next st] twice, dc in each of the next 3 sts, 5 dc in the next st, dc in each of the next 4 sts, [sk the next st, dc in the next st] twice; rpt from * across to the last st, dc in the last st.  Ch 1, turn.

Repeat rows 2-5 until your work from the beginning measure approximately 45 inches (or the desired width).

Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Edging:

The edging is worked in rows across the shorter sides of the blanket only.  If you would like to change the length of your edging, your first row of single crochet stitches will need to be a multiple of 6 sts + 1.

With the right side facing, join yarn with a sl st in the right corner.

Row 1: Ch 1, evenly work 145 sc along the edge.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in the 1st st, * sk the next 2 sts, 5 dc in the next st, sk the next 2 sts, sc in the next st; rpt from * across, sc in the final st.

Fasten off and repeat for the second side.  

Fasten off and weave in your ends.  Block if desired.
