The Cloud Stitch is a wonderfully textured crochet stitch that creates a beautiful fabric that has the texture all to one side.

The other thing to note right from the start is that this pattern is a super easy two row repeat. The first row is a combination of slip stitches and cluster stitches which the second row is a return row of single crochet. It is so easy!

It will make more sense once you see the pattern below, but if you would like to mix the pattern up a little bit, you can experiment by working more rows of single crochet stitches in between the rows of clusters. This will give the pattern a little more variation in a project.

If I were to compare the texture of this stitch to another, I would say that is has a similar feel and vibe as the even moss stitch. The texture in the cloud stitch just pops out a little more.

Materials for this Tutorial:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of cotton yarn in one colour. This yarn is a worsted weight yarn 100% cotton yarn called Pima Cotton by Lion Brand Yarn. I will also be using a 5 mm crochet hook. The hook you will see me using in the video tutorial below is a favourite  Birchwood Crochet Hook by Rowan Yarn.

    Pattern Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a solid colour.

To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch you will need a multiple of two chains for your foundation chain.

To begin, you will work your foundation chain. For example, work 30 chains.

    Row One:

Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

    Row Two:

Sl st into the 1st st, *CL (see “stitches and abbreviations”) in the next st, sl st in next st; rpt from * across. Ch 1, turn.

    Row Three:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

    And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows two and three for as long as you would like. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
