This Simple Weave Crochet Stitch is such an interesting stitch that is fun and quick to work!
Although I have called this stitch a “simple weave” stitch, I will let you know that there is no actual weaving involved, it is simply the unique placement of the crochet hook when working a single crochet stitch, that the “weaved” look is achieved.
The creation of this stitch pattern is really quite simple. It includes a row of spiked half double crochet stitches and then a row of single crochet stitches.

I can see this stitch working well for a variety of projects. It does have an openness to it so it would not work for those projects where you wish to have a solid fabric, but it is thick and robust!
Materials for this Tutorial:
For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. It is a worsted weight yarn. I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook. In the video tutorial beow you will see me working with a Birchwood Crochet Hook by Rowan. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.
Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the beautiful Almond Stitch | How to Crochet.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a solid colour.
To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch you may use an even multiple of chain stitches for your foundation chain.
To begin, you will work your foundation chain. For example, work 30 chains.
Row One:
Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two:
Sc in the 1st st, *ch 1, sk the next st, spiked hdc under the next st; Rpt from * across until you come to the final 2 sts, ch 1, sk the next st, sc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Three:
Sc in the 1st st, *sc in the next ch-1 sp, sc working infront of the next st insert your hook under the top two loops of the post of the next spike hdc; Rpt from * across ending with an sc in the final ch-1 sp and in the top of the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Four:
Sc in the 1st st, *spiked hdc in the next ch-1 sp two rows below, ch 1, sk the next st; Rpt from * across ending with a sc in the top of the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Five:
Sc in the 1st st, *sc working in front of the next st insert your hook under the top two loops of the post of the next spike hdc, ch 1, sk the next st; Rpt from * across to the final st, sc in the top of the final st. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern you will repeat rows two to five for the pattern. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
