This 100% wool Autumn Maple Beanie crochet pattern is simply screaming “Fall” with its bold texture and colour!

Not too long ago I watched the Fleece & Harmony podcast on YouTube where they introduced one of their new seasonal colour ways called “Gairloch Trail” and, the moment I saw it, I knew that I had to feature some in a crochet hat! The colours were bright and bold, and the perfect eye catching combination for a fall beanie.

The Autumn Maple Beanie is a crochet hat designed to fit a teen or adult head with a 20-23 inch circumference. The hat does have a little bit of slouch to it and I have designed it to be worn with a pompom or without. If you choose to make a pompom for the top and use two skeins of the Selkirk Worsted by Fleece & Harmony, then you will have a little left over that you can combine to make a pompom for the top.

This hat is worked from the bottom up beginning with a slip stitch brim that is worked in rows and then continued into rounds for the hat body. The hat may be worked in one colour or many. You will see through the pattern below that I will alternate between two.

If you enjoy working crochet blankets, I invite you to check out my book: Barn Quilt Blankets! It is a collection of five blanket crochet patterns that feature a beautiful geometric designs. The book is now available in both paperback and ebook formats on Amazon! You can read about it here: BARN QUILT BLANKETS

Unfortunately the colour Gairloch Trail colour that I have featured here in my hat was a seasonal colour in the Selkirk Worsted line and I am not sure how often it will be in stock at Fleece & Harmony, however they have lots of other colourful options as well including Blue Poppy, Wild Rose, and First Light which are some of my favourites. Have fun experimenting with colour!

Pattern Notes:

  • Pattern is written in American English terms.
  • Pattern is worked in rounds.
  • Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch.
  • Weave in ends as needed.
  • Turn at the end of rounds ONLY AS INDICATED.
  • Hat may be worn with a pompom or without.
  • When chasing colours, in the stitch prior to the colour change, drop the colour in use before completing the stitch, place the new colour on your hook and draw through the final two loops on your hook.  Then continue working with the new colour.
  • For this pattern I like to gently carry the non working yarn up the inside of the hat.  Alternatively you may fasten off at the end of each colour change and weave in your ends as you go.
  • To change the size of your hat you may use any multiple of stitches for the brim and will need a multiple of 4 stitches for the first round of your hat body.
