Blankets and Throws

Around the Bend Throw – Free Crochet Pattern

This blanket crochet pattern is beautiful in its simplicity! It’s an easy pattern to catch on to and as it is made up of twenty individual squares, it is a great project to take with you on the go!

I have been loving the yarn cake phenomenon and there are so many different varieties out there! This blanket crochet pattern makes use of the self stripping beauty of the cakes.  For this project I have used the Caron Cotton Cakes by Yarnspirations but you may use a worsted weight yarn of your choice.

The Blanket:

Caron Cakes Blanket

This blanket is made up of twenty different squares which are crocheted together.  Each square features a moss stitch design which is worked in a round.

The great thing about working the moss stitch in the round and from the centre out is that you can really make these squares any size you desire! For my blanket I chose to make the squares twelve inches by twelve inches and worked twenty of them.

Finishing:

To finish the blanket I worked a simple half double crochet edging which I found complemented the design of the squares.

There is a free video tutorial for this pattern that demonstrates how to work the moss stitch in a round.  The video will be linked following the written pattern and at the end of this post.

  1. I’m making this Afghan for my daughter in law. She loves crocheted afghans and this one has that vintage feel that she and I both love.
