The Wicker stitch is a beautifully textured stitch – great for crochet blankets or cardigans!

This crochet wicker stitch features an unusual texture.  It appears to be lacy, but because of the texture within the pattern, it is more on the heavier side.

The pattern is made up of simple crochet stitches including v-stitches and and front post double crochet stitches.

natural wicker crochet stitch worked in blue yarn

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Cotton Aran by Paintbox Yarns. It is an aran weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm Clover Armor Hook. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

You will find a free video tutorial at the bottom of this post following the written instruction!

The Natural Wicker Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need to chain a multiple of four stitches for your foundation chain.

Row One:

In the fourth chain from your hook, work one chain two v stitch.

To work your chain two V Stitch: Double crochet, chain two, double crochet all in the same stitch.  Your V stitch is made.

*Skip the next three stitches, V stitch in the next stitch.

Repeat from * across to the final stitch, double crochet in the final stitch.

Chain two and turn your work.

Row Two:

Skip the first stitch, *work a front post double crochet stitch around the next double crochet, work a chain three v stitch (a v stitch with a chain three in the centre instead of a chain two) in the next chain two space.  Front post double crochet around the post of the next double crochet.

Repeat from * across and end with a double crochet in the last starting chain two space.

Chain two and turn your work.

Row Three:

Work one chain two v stitch in each chain three space across.  Double Crochet in the final starting chain two space.

Chain two and turn your work.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern repeat rows two and three.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
