The Single Crochet mesh stitch creates a beautiful design. Unlike other mesh stitches, the holes in the fabric are smaller and less pronounced.

If you are a fan of the moss stitch, this stitch is for you! It works up with the same ease and feel.

The Single Crochet Mesh Stitch

Because of the combination of single crochet stitches and chain stitches, the end pattern has a light and airy feel. The fabric is not dense at all.

Another highlight of this single crochet mesh stitch is that it is the same on both sides.

Worked it in a single colour or in multiple, I believe this stitch would lend itself well to a variety of projects including lacy cardigans and market bags.

Materials:

For this tutorial I will be using the Caron x Pantone yarn by Yarnspirations along with a 6 mm crochet hook.  The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Single Crochet Mesh Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.  At the end of each row you will need to either chain one and turn your work. The chain one at the beginning does not count as a stitch.

Don’t forget to check out the free video tutorial linked below!

For this stitch pattern you can use an even number of stitches.

For my swatch I will be making a foundation chain of 22 chain stitches.

Row One:

Single crochet in the second chain from your hook, * chain one, skip the next chain and single crochet in the next stitch.

Repeat from * all the way across.

Chain one and turn your work.

Row Two:

Single crochet into the first stitch, *chain one, skip the next chain one space and single crochet into the next stitch.

Repeat from * all the way across working your final single crochet into the top of the last single crochet stitch.

Chain one and turn your work.

And that’s it!

For the rest of your pattern your are simply going to repeat row two! It is that easy.

Fasten off and weave in your ends.
