Crochet snowballs! What fun! Are you looking for a fun indoor activity for the kids? Try out this free crochet pattern for some snowballs!

Not too long ago I was on the hunt for an activity for my children to do on a wet wintery afternoon.  Knowing my kids love to play in the snow (the rain had turned it all into a muddy mess), and that they also love to throw that snow at each other gave me a fun idea!

Bernat Blanket Yarn:

I had seen a few crochet snowball patterns floating around the internet and I liked the idea.  Later while rummaging through my yarn stash I came across a number of incomplete balls of Bernat Blanket Yarn.  Attracted to its softness I set to work with my 8mm crochet hook and this super plush snowball was born.

Better still, because I’m working with a super bulky weight yarn they worked up so quickly! Once I had the pattern down (it’s not a hard one to catch onto) each one only took about ten minutes to make.  After I had a half dozen completed I tossed them to the kids and let them go at it!

Child Tested and Approved!

Downstairs on that rainy afternoon they built “snow forts” and let the snowballs fly while I whipped up a few more.  Later the game morphed into a game of dodgeball.  No one got hurt, nothing got broken! As they are super plush, these are balls I don’t mind having thrown in the house.  They had so much fun! Now several days later they are still enjoying them.

I posted a photo of them on my personal Facebook wall and they received a tremendous response from my friends so I decided to write this quick pattern up for you to enjoy too!  Make them for your own kids or for gifts.  They’re so much fun! Stay tuned! Over the next coming weeks I will have a couple of other children’s toys coming to the blog.

All you will need for this pattern is a little bit of Bernat Blanket Yarn by Yarnspirations, a stitch marker, a little bit of fibrefill and a 8mm crochet hook.

Following the written pattern below you will find a free video tutorial.
