I recently came across this really great, unique looking crochet stitch called the Standing Chain Stitch pattern.
I love the look of the standing chain. It really looks like little rows of upright foundation chains. They are very versatile and can be worked into almost any stitch pattern. Today we will simply work rows of them interspersed between rows of single crochet stitch.
As is the case with many stitch patterns, this stitch may be worked in a single colour or in many. I will be working it in a single colour.

The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in a single colour. You are also able to work this stitch in a single colour or more. The Heatherly yarn is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
The turning ch does not count as a stitch.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern, you may use any number of stitches for your foundation chain.
For example, ch 30.
Row One:
Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, sc in each st across. Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn.
Row Two:
Work a stch (See “Stitches and Abbreviations”) in the 1st st, stch in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Three:
Sc in the 1st st, sc in each st across. Ch 2, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows two and three. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
