Welcome to week three of the 2025 Marvellous Market Bag Crochet Along! Today we will make the Southport Market Bag.
The Southport Market Bag crochet pattern is a fairly easy one to work. The bag consists of rounds of half double crochet two together stitches and rounds of paired double crochet stitches.
Like the other market bags in this year’s crochet along, this bag has an oval shaped bottom and is worked from the bottom up. The half double crochet two together stitches create fun ridges of texture around the bag and it’s a fairly quick one to work.

The 2025 Marvellous Market Bag Crochet Along:
Is this your first time hearing about the crochet along? Be sure to check out the Introduction and Materials list, and you won’t want to miss the first market bag published: The Leyburn Market Bag. Last week we worked on the Bingley Market Bag. There is still one more crochet market bag to come!

The Materials:
For the Southport Market Bag I used a worsted weight 100% cotton yarn called 24/7 by Lion Brand Yarn. I really love using cotton for market bags. Not only is it available in a wide range of colours, but it is also durable and holds its shape well, even when under a lot of stress.
The colour of yarn shown in the photos of the Southport Market Bag Crochet pattern is Ecru and you are going to need approximately two and a half balls, or 500 yards. You will also need a 4.00 mm (G/6) crochet hook.

How to add a non-crochet bottom to your bag:
I have crocheted the bottoms of my market bags (the pattern is below), however if you wish to add a non-crochet bottom to your bag, you can check out this tutorial: How to add a Non-Crochet Bottom to your Bag.
PDF Copies are also Available:
The Southport Market Bag crochet pattern will be written out in full below and will forever remain free when viewed here on Rich Textures Crochet, and the written instruction will be followed by a video tutorial. However if you would like to add this pattern to your library or purchase an ad free PDF, you may do so from either my Etsy or Ravelry Shop linked below:
