The Diagonal Raised Double Crochet Stitch is a highly textured crochet stitch.  It is an intermediate pattern.

Even though it is a little more complicated than some of the other crochet stitches out there, learning how to master it is quite satisfying!

This stitch is beautiful! The texture and design in it is great to look at and feel.  I would love to use this stitch in a blanket some day.  In the past I have also seen this stitch used in crochet beanies!

The pattern is worked using a variety of front and back post double crochet stitches.  These post stitches are what give it the textured feel.

Materials:

For this tutorial I will be using the Caron x Pantone yarn by Yarnspirations along with a 6 mm crochet hook.  The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

The Diagonal Raised Double Crochet Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.  At the end of each row you will need to chain 2 and turn your work.

Don’t forget to check out the free video tutorial linked below!

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple four of stitches for your foundation chain.

For my swatch I will be making a foundation chain of 24 chain stitches.

Row One:

Double crochet into the fourth chain from your hook and in each stitch all the way across.  Turn.

Row Two:

Chain two, skip the first double crochet *front post double crochet around each of the next two double crochet, back post double crochet around each of the next two double crochet.

Repeat from * across, double crochet in the top of the turning chain.

Turn.

Row Three:

Chain two, skip the first double crochet, front post double crochet around the next stitch, *Back post double crochet around each of the next two stitches, front post double crochet around each of the next two stitches.

Repeat from * across, front post double crochet around the last front post double crochet, double crochet in the top of the turning chain.

Turn.

Row Four:

Chain two, skip the first double crochet, *back post double crochet around each of the next two stitches, front post double crochet around each of the next two stitches.

Repeat from * across and work one double crochet in the top of the turning chain.

Turn.

Row Five:

Chain two, skip the first double crochet, back post double crochet around the first stitch, *front post around each of the next two stitches, back post double crochet around each of the next two stitches.

Repeat from * across, back post double crochet around the final back post double crochet, double crochet in the top of the turning chain.

Turn.

Row Six:

Chain two, skip the first double crochet *front post double crochet around each of the next two stitches, back post double crochet around each of the next two stitches.

Repeat from * across, double crochet in the top of the turning chain.

Turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern repeat rows three to six.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
