The Block and Offset Shell stitch is a fairly robust stitch that is not overly lacy. It is a simple one row repeat!
The Block and Offset Shell stitch pattern is made up of basic crochet stitches. All you need to know is the double crochet and chain stitch.
This stitch is constructed similarly to the Tilted Rows Stitch | How to Crochet, however the double crochet blocks are quite a bit larger which helps to make the double crochet shells stand out a bit more.

Materials:
For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Cotton Aran by Paintbox Yarns. It is an aran weight yarn. The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Block and Offset Shell Stitch:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial. At the end of each row you will need to chain three and turn your work. The chain three counts as a double crochet stitch.
To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains. For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of eleven stitches, plus seven stitches for your foundation chain.
For my swatch I will be making a foundation chain of 40 chain stitches.
Row One:
Work one double crochet into the fourth chain from your hook, double crochet in each of the next three chains.

*Skip the next two chain, five double crochet in the next chain, chain two, skip three, double crochet in each of the next five stitches.
Repeat from * across, chain three and turn.

Row Two:
Double crochet in each of the next four stitches, *skip the next chain two, skip the next double crochet, and work five double crochet in the next stitch.

Chain two and skip the next three double crochet stitches, double crochet in each of the next five stitches.
Repeat from * across, chain three and turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat row two. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
