If you are looking for a wool beanie that is cozy and textured, you will want to try the Origins Beanie crochet pattern.
I love a wool yarn in a hat, and I especially love the fluffy fibre of roving yarn. When working with a roving yarn, the fibres blend together giving you a more solid and warm fabric.
The Origins Beanie crochet pattern is worked from the bottom up beginning with a double thick brim. The brim is worked in my favourite slip-stitch style. As always, you can switch up the slip stitches for single crochet stitches or half double crochet stitches. You can also work a shorter brim if you do not wish to fold it up. The folded brim is so cozy!
The stitch pattern featured in the Origins Beanie includes cluster stitches and slip stitches. It has a nice, easy rhythm. The texture is continued up through the entirety of the hat.

What Materials do I need to make this hat?
For my materials, I used a beautiful 100% wool yarn called Wool-Ease Roving Origins by Lion Brand. It is a bulky (#5) weight yarn. For a crochet hook, to work this crochet pattern you will need a 6 mm (J/10). In the video tutorial below you will see me using a Birchwood crochet hook by Rowan.

Ch 26
Row 1: Sl st in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (25 sl sts)
Row 2: Working in the blo, sl st in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (25 sl sts)
Continue to repeat row 2 until work from the beginning measures approximately 16-17 inches.
Do not fasten off, but fold the brim of the hat so that two shorter ends meet. Now working through both thicknesses, sl st across working through the blo on each side. Do not fasten off. For a fold up brim you will continue with the wrong side with the seam facing you. If you are working a brim that will not be folded up, turn work right side out (so that the right side is facing you and the slip stitch seam is on the inside).
Now working around the edge of the brim, continue working in rounds as follows:
