This week we will add even more height to our crochet project as we learn the Triple Column Stitch crochet pattern.
Last week we were introduced to a fun family of crochet stitches: the Column Stitches. The first of which was presented a week ago. Today we will learn to make the stitch slightly taller as we work the Triple/Treble Column Stitch Crochet Pattern.

As I mentioned last week, column stitches are fairly fun to work. You begin by working your base stitch, such as a triple/treble crochet, you then work the next stitch by working through the post of the previous stitch in particular places along the post. I hope you gave the Double Crochet Column Stitch last week a try!
I will describe the process in the free crochet pattern below, but if in doubt, be sure to also check out the free video tutorial. This week, as we work down our base stitch, we will pick up loops in two places along the post of a triple/treble crochet.

Triple Column Stitch Crochet Pattern:
Stitches and Abbreviations:
Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
Rpt – Repeat
Sc – Single Crochet
Sk – Skip
Sl st – Slip stitch
Sp – Space
Tr – Triple/Treble Stitch
Yo – Yarn over
Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern, you will need a foundation chain with a multiple of 2 stitches, plus 1.
For example, ch 25.
Row One:
Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st across. Ch 4 (Counts as a tr), turn.
Row Two:
Tr in the next st, *yo, insert hook under the top 2 front loops that you see about a third of the way down on the post of the previous tr st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and insert your hook under the to 2 front loops that you see a little further down on the post of the previous st, yo and draw up a loop, insert your hook into the next sc st, yo and draw up a loop (you will have 6 loops on your hook), yo and draw through 3 loops on your hook, [yo and then draw through 2 loops on your hook] twice, tr in the next st; Rpt from * across ending with a tr in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Three:
Sc in the 1st st and in each st across, ending by working your final sc in the top of the turning ch. Ch 4 (Counts as a tr), turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows 2 and 3 for the pattern. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
