Last week we learned how to crochet the Fleur de Lys Stitch in two colours, this week we will learn how to crochet it in one.

I wanted to demonstrate how to work the Fleur de Lys stitch in only one colour as it is just as pretty! It also continues to show that great texture even though there are a few differences in the pattern.

In a few ways, working the stitch pattern in a single colour is a bit easier.  Not only are you only working in the one colour, but you will only find back post raised cluster stitches instead of front and back.

I invite you to check out the video tutorial below!

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Cotton Aran by Paintbox Yarns. It is an aran weight yarn. The hook shown here and in the video below is a 5mm Clover Armor Hook. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

The Fleur de Lys Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of six stitches plus three for your foundation chain.

This version of the Fleur de Lys Stitch is worked in one colour, if you would like to learn how to crochet it in two colours, you will find that tutorial here:

Row One:

Skip the first two chains (Counts as a double crochet), double crochet into the next chain.  *Chain one, skip the next two chains, single crochet into the next chain, chain one, skip the next two chains **, work three double crochet into the next chain.

Repeat from * across ending the last repeat at **, work two double crochet into the last chain.  Turn your work.

Row Two:

Chain one, single crochet into the same place, * chain two, work a back raised cluster.

To work your back raised cluster, holding back the last loop on each stitch, work one back post double crochet around the post of the next double crochet, skip the chain-one, double crochet into the top of the next single crochet, skip the next chain-one, back post double crochet around the next double crochet (you will have four loops on your hook), yarn over and draw through all four loops on your hook.  Your back raised cluster is now complete.

Chain two, single crochet in the next double crochet.  Repeat from * across to the end.  Turn your work.

Row Three:

Chain three (counts as a double crochet), double crochet into the first stitch, * chain one, skip the next two chains, single crochet into the next cluster, chain one, skip the next two chains**, three double crochet in the next single crochet.

Repeat from * across ending the last repeat at **, two double crochet into the last single crochet. Turn your work.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, repeat rows two and three for as long as you would like.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
