Welcome to the 2026 Marvellous Market Bag Crochet Along where we will learn to make four beautiful market Bag crochet patterns together!
This is the seventh (I was shocked when I discovered this! Time flies when you’re having fun!) annual Market Bag crochet along and it’s always such a fun event! If this is your first time participating in the Market Bag Crochet Along, here’s how it works!
Beginning May 6th, on each Wednesday for the month of May, I will release a NEW market bag crochet pattern. That means over the course of the event you will learn to make four new bags!
Each market bag crochet pattern will be available for free here on Rich Textures Crochet and their video tutorials on my YouTube channel. You will definitely wish to subscribe to my email newsletter and YouTube channel if you have not already so that you are notified as each of the patterns is posted. I will post the links below. There will also be an ad-free version of the patterns for sale in my Etsy and Ravelry shops for those who wish a PDF format.
Past Crochet Market Bag Crochet Alongs:
As mentioned above this is the seventh market bag crochet along that I will have hosted here on Rich Textures Crochet. I’m not going to lie and each year I tend to have a favourite. Last year it was the Bingley Market Bag. I designed this market bag while on a trip touring Belgium and France so it definitely has a special place in my heart.

The Materials:
For my crochet market bags this year I used a worsted weight 100% cotton yarn called Dishie by KnitPicks and WeCrochet. I really love using cotton for market bags. Not only is it available in a wide range of colours, but it is also durable and holds its shape well, even when under a lot of stress! I will provide the exact amounts of yarn for each bag below. But each bag will require about 475-600 yards of your worsted weight cotton.
Along with the yarn you will want to have a 5mm (H/8) crochet hook and four stitch markers on hand as well, although these are optional.
The break down of the yarn amounts and the colours I used for each bag is as follows:
- Wednesday, May 6th: Trellis Market Bag
- You will need about 475 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in a single colour (Verdigris shown)
- Wednesday, May 13th: Beach Vibes Market Bag
- You will need about 475 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in a single colour (Azure shown)
- Wednesday, May 20th: Garden Party Market Bag
- You will need about 600 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in four different colours:
- Colour A: About 285 yards, colour Swan
- Colour B: About 105 yards, colour Jade
- Colour C: About 105 yards colour Blush
- Colour D: About 105 yards, colour Dewdrop
- You will need about 600 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in four different colours:
- Wednesday, May 27th: Market Day Market Bag
- You will need about 600 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in four different colours:
- Colour A: About 220 yards, colour Linen
- Colour B: About 125 yards, colour Silver
- Colour C: About 125 yards, colour Lilac Mist
- Colour D: About 125 yards, colour Jade
- You will need about 600 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in four different colours:
NOTE: You may use as many colours as desired! The above colour combinations are only to serve as inspiration.
How it works:
Beginning May 6th, 2026 I will release one new crochet market bag pattern each week for four weeks. The patterns (including the written and video tutorials) will be posted on the Wednesdays at 9am EST.
The schedule will be as follows:
- Wednesday, May 6th: Trellis Market Bag (You will need about 475 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in a single colour)
- Wednesday, May 13th: Beach Vibes Market Bag (You will need about 475 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in a single colour)
- Wednesday, May 20th: Garden Party Market Bag (You will need about 600 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in four different colours)
- Wednesday, May 27th: Market Day Market Bag (You will need about 600 yards of a worsted weight cotton. I will work it in four different colours)
The patterns will be posted FOR FREE in written form here on my website and a full video tutorial will also be posted here and to my YouTube channel. As well each week, for those who wish, I will make a PDF available that can be purchased from my Etsy and Ravelry Shops. All of the patterns will be free to follow here on my website and YouTube Channel and will forever remain free here even after the crochet along has ended.
The Patterns:
Each crochet market bag features a similar construction and is worked as one piece from the bottom and into the continuous handles. This year the first two of the market bags will ease us into the event as they use easy and basic crochet stitches. The final two bags are classified as intermediate patterns and they each feature a lot of great texture and colour changes!

There is no official sign up list for this crochet along! However, there are several ways you can connect and interact.
First, you will want to join my email list (you can find the sign-up form on my homepage at the top or through the sign-up form below – NOTE: If you have signed up for my email newsletter in the past, you will NOT need to sign up again). Each week I will send out an email with the direct links to the patterns to your inbox.
Second, you can join the Rich Textures Crochet Community on Facebook! Here you can ask questions, post photos and see how other participants projects are coming along. Also don’t forget to follow the Rich Textures Crochet Facebook page.
