This crochet ear saver pattern is both pretty and practical! It features a crochet braided stitch and is quick to work up.

This past spring many things changed as the world grappled with the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus.  Many, like myself found that, very suddenly, their work situation and work spaces changed.

In Ontario, Canada, as libraries were shut down across the province, those librarians, technicians and assistants were given the option of being re appointed in local long term care homes and the need for assistance there had grown with the pandemic.

My Story:

So as a librarian assistant, after finishing my maternity leave, I started working at one of the long term care homes in my community as a screener for COVID-19.  This meant that I would be wearing a mask for extended periods of time during my shifts, and I was not alone! All the staff at the long term care homes and in many other work places across the province now require that their employees wear masks.

These masks can take a toll on your ears as I learned very quickly.  Wanting to be more comfortable during my shifts, I decided to design myself a quick but pretty ear saver pattern.  This is the pattern I’m going to share with you today!

These crochet ear savers feature a braided crochet stitch that is worked using puff stitches.  I made them out of Patons Grace Yarn by Yarnspirations which is a 100% mercerized cotton yarn.  This makes them soft and less likely to irritate when worn against your skin.

I have worked several other designs in this yarn including the Catherine Wheel Crochet Bookmark and the Little Hearts Bookmark | Free Crochet Pattern.

Wearing your Crochet Ear Saver:

They are slightly long than other ear savers, designed to sit just slightly behind your ears.  This means that they are going to keep your mask snug around your face, but not pull it too tight.

There are two ways that I like to wear mine.  The first is up higher on my head set over a pony tail:

The second way is just below my hair line on the back of my neck:

I’ve found both ways very comfortable!
