Tea Party Dishcloth Crochet Pattern

We are in the warmer days of summer in my corner of the world and often during these hot afternoons, I gravitate toward working on smaller projects such as crochet dishcloths and washcloths!

This Tea Party Dishcloth crochet pattern is very simple to work with its rows of double and single crochet stitches. I have added a bit of colour work stripes to further define the texture and give it a party time flare! If you wish, however, you could certainly work the dishcloth in a solid colour. The great thing about crocheting dishcloths is that often you can simply use whatever 100% cotton yarn you have on hand.

The edging on the dishcloth adds a further touch of elegance with its single crochet and picot edging. I can’t wait to see how you work these washcloths up!

For this crochet dishcloth I used a worsted weight 100% cotton yarn called Dishie by KnitPicks and WeCrochet. A 100% cotton yarn is really a must for crochet dishcloths and washcloths. Not only is it available in a wide range of colours, but it is also durable and holds its shape well, even when under a lot of stress and repeated washings!

Tea Party Dishcloth Crochet Pattern:

Skill Level: Easy

Gauge:  16 sts x 19 rows of pattern = 4 inches

Finished Size: Approximately 8.75 x 8.75 inches

Yarn: Dishie Worsted Weight by KintPicks/WeCrochet ® (190 yds; 100g; 100% cotton; (4) worsted weight).  You will need approximately 120 yards per dishcloth in two colours.

Hook: Size H/8 (5 mm) hook. Notions: Yarn Needle

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
Lp – Loop
Picot – Ch 2, then sl st back into the 2nd ch from your hook.
Rpt – Repeat
Sc – Single Crochet
Sk – Skip
Sl st – Slip stitch
Yo – Yarn over

Pattern Notes:

• Pattern is written in American English terms.
• Pattern is worked in rows.
• Ch 1 at beginning of row does not count as stitch.
• Weave in ends as needed.
• To change the size of your dishcloth you will need a foundation chain with an even number of stitches.

Free Crochet Pattern:

With colour A, ch 34.

Row 1: [Sc, dc] in the 2nd ch from your hook, *sk the next st, [sc, dc] in the next st; Rpt from * across until 2 sts remain, sk the next st, sc in the final st.  Ch 1, turn. (33 sts)

Row 2: [Sc, dc] in the 1st st, *sk the next st, [sc, dc] in the next st; Rpt from * across until 2 sts remain, sk the next st, sc in the final st.  Switch to colour B in the final st.  With colour B, Ch 1, turn.

Note: There is no need to fasten off at the end of each row.  Simply carry the non working yarn up the side so that once you come back across you can simply pick it up and continue working in the next colour.

Rows 3-4: With colour B, repeat row 2.  Switch back to colour A at the end of row 4. 

Rows 5-6: With colour A, repeat row 2.  Switch back to colour B at the end of row 6.  

Rows 7-24: Continue to repeat row 2 switching between colours A and B after every second row.  You will end by working 2 rows in colour B.

Fasten off colour B but leave colour A attached for the edging.

Edging:

Rnd 1: With colour A,work 3 sc in the 1st corner st, sc in each st across the top, work 3 sc in the next corner st, work 31 sc evenly across the side, 3 sc in the next corner st, sc in each st across the bottom, 3 sc in the corner, work 31 sc evenly along the final side edge and join with a sl st in the top of the 1st st.  Do not turn.

Rnd 2: Sc in the 1st st, picot, *[2 sc, picot, sc] in the next corner st, sc in the next st, picot, [sc in each of the next 2 sts, picot] across to the next corner st; Rpt from * 3 times more ending with a sc in the final st, join with a sl st in the top of the 1st st.

Fasten off, weave in your ends.
