The Raised Herringbone stitch features a lot of texture in its raised crossed post stitches.  It is such a satisfying stitch to work!

If you are looking for texture, then this stitch is sure to be a favourite.  I have used a version of this stitch in the Into the Bush Beanie Crochet Pattern and the Into the Bush Cowl Crochet Pattern.  I think it is beautiful!

This stitch is a two row repeat and the texture is created by front post crossed double treble stitches.  The texture in this stitch creates a zig zag design across your fabric.  The stitch only appears on one side and would look wonderful in a variety of projects, not only hats and cowls, but blankets, washcloths and cardigans as well! I cannot wait to see what you make with it!

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. It is a worsted weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm Wooden Streamline crochet hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

The Raised Herringbone Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of six stitches and then add three for your foundation chain.

Row One:

Half double crochet in the second chain from your hook and in each stitch across.  Chain one and turn your work.

Row Two:

Half double crochet in the first stitch and in each stitch across.  Chain one and turn your work.

Row Three:

Half double crochet in the first stitch, skip the first three stitches two rows below, and front post double treble stitch in the next stitch two rows below, up top skip the next stitch behind the front post stitch just made, *half double crochet in each of the next four stitches.  Front post double treble stitch around the post of the next stitch immediately after the last post stitch two rows below, in the row two rows below, skip the next four stitches, front post double treble stitch in the next stitch.  Up top, skip the next two stitch behind the post stitches, half double crochet in each of the next four stitches.

Repeat from * across, half double crochet in the final stitch.

Chain one and turn your work.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern you simply have to repeat rows two and three for the pattern.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
