The Long Spiked V Stitch has lots of wonderful texture and is a thick fabric.  It would make a cozy addition to a pattern!

The Long Spiked V stitch looks best when worked in multiple colours as this really brings our the stitches.  When worked in two different colours as I will below the effect is one of vertical stripes.

The spiked V stitches are what give this pattern its thickness.  They are worked over the space between the v stitches in the previous row and into the v stitches that are two rows below.  It sounds confusing, but as you’ll see in the written and video tutorial below, the pattern is an easy two row repeat!

The Long Spiked Crochet v stitch worked in blue and grey yarn

Materials for this Tutorial:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. It is a worsted weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm birchwood crochet hook by Rowan Yarns.  However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the Nesting V Stitch | How to Crochet.

Dc – Double Crochet

Hdc – Half Double Crochet

Rpt – Repeat

Sc – Single Crochet

Sk – Skip

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Yo – Yarn Over

Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.  You may work the stitch in one colour or many.  I will be working the design in two colours: A, B.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of three stitches for your foundation chain (multiples of 3).

For example, with colour A, ch 24.

Row One:

Dc in 6th ch from hook, ch 1, dc in the same st, *sk the next 2 sts, [dc, ch 1, dc] (v stitch made) in the next st; rpt from * across to the final 3 sts, sk the next 2 sts, 2 dc in the final st.  Switch to colour B in the final st.  Turn.

Row Two:

With colour B, ch 2, sk the 1st 2 dc, *[dc, ch 1, dc] working over top of the next 2 dc and into the ch st of your foundation ch, sk the next v st; rpt across, hdc in the top of the turing ch.  Do not turn, but at the start of your previous row, pick up colour A.

Row Three:

With colour A, Ch 2, dc in the sp between the 1st 2 sts of the row 2 rows below, *sk the next v st, [dc, ch 1, dc] into the ch-1 sp of the next v st 2 rows below; rpt from * across to the final v st, sk the next v st and dc into the sp between the final 2 sts in the row 2 rows below, hdc in the final st and switch back to colour B. Turn.

Row Four:

With colour B, ch 2, dc in the sp between the 1st 2 sts of the row 2 rows below, *sk the next v st, [dc, ch 1, dc] into the ch-1 sp of the next v st 2 rows below; rpt from * across, dc into the sp between the final 2 dc sts in the row 2 rows below, hdc in the final st.  Do not turn, but at the start of your previous row, pick up colour A.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, simply repeat rows 3 and 4.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
