This Easy Zippered Coin Purse Crochet Pattern is a great beginner design that is created by working a simple pocket in basic crochet stitches.
Once the pocket is worked, you will insert and attach a premade zippered canvas pouch and your coin purse is complete.
It’s such an easy project that is great for beginners and more advanced crocheters alike. Customization is easy by working desired colour combinations.

How to Make a Zippered Coin Purse:
For this project you will use a 5 mm crochet hook and a little bit of your favourite worsted/medium weight cotton. For mine I used the Dishie Cotton by Knit Picks. It is a 100% cotton that comes in a variety of colours.
Along with your yarn and hook you will also need a zippered canvas pouch. Mine measured about 3 x 5 inches and I purchased it online on Amazon. I have also seen them available at my local craft store.
To work the purse, you will work a simple pocket, slide the zippered pouch inside and secure into place by either sewing it or by using a little bit of fabric tape. In the video tutorial below I will use some fabric tape.

Pattern Notes:
- Pattern is written in American English terms.
- Pattern is worked in rounds, as one piece, from the bottom up to the top.
- Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch.
- Weave in ends as needed.
- In the photo above I have created three options. The first is a solid colour with no colour changes. The second you will change colours at the end of round 12 and complete the final six rounds in colour B. For the third option you will use three colours and change colour at the end of each round.
- To change colour, I like to do so at the end of the final stitch in a round. For example, with your colour A, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, drop your colour A, pick up your colour B and draw it through the two loops on your hook. You are then ready to continue working in your new colour.
- When working the purse with three colours and changing colours after each round, you may leave the colours attached and simply carry them up on the inside of your work.
- Do not turn unless stated otherwise.

Free Crochet Pattern:
Rnd 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st across to the final st, 3 sc in the final st. Now working along the opposite side of your foundation ch, sc in each st across to the final ch, 2 sc in the final ch, join with a sl st in the 1st st. Do not turn. (44 sts)
Rnds 2-18: Ch 1, sc in the same st as joining and in each st around, join with a sl st in the 1st st. Do not turn. (44 sts)
NOTE: Work more or less rounds as required to reach the appropriate height of your canvas pouch.
See the above pattern notes on colour changing options.
Fasten off, weave in your ends.
Slip the coin purse crochet pocket over top of your canvas pouch with the zipper at the top. Using a small amount of thread (alternatively you may use some fabric glue/tape), sew/secure the crochet pocket to the canvas pouch through the final round of stitches at the top.
