Making Waves Bookmark – Free Crochet Pattern

The lazy days of summer lend themselves well to putting your feet up and reading that perfect summer book.  Why not dress up your summer reading with this fun free crochet pattern for the Making Waves Bookmark.

The other day I was sitting beside our local community pool watching the kids participate in their swimming lessons.  You might say that the waves they were creating in the pool were the inspiration for this bookmark.

While reading through my summer reading list (I am a librarian assistant, so the list is fairly extensive!) I realized I wanted a bookmark that was quick and fun to work up.  I also wanted on that was easy to customize with colour and screamed summer!

I feel like this wave and chevron stitch worked perfectly! What do you think?

The wave and chevron stitch is fun to work, can be worked in a variety of colours and is quick! It fit all of my criteria perfectly.

I love making bookmarks!

I love to crochet bookmarks.  They make a great gift to myself, and also friends and family.  Because they work up quickly, they are also great contenders for craft sales.  You can check out a couple of the other bookmarks I’ve designed:

Granny Square Bookmark – Free Crochet Pattern

Chevron Bookmark – A Free Crochet Pattern

Both of these free crochet patterns also include video tutorials.  All are worked with a light weight (#3) yarn.  Enjoy!

The Bookmark:

The Making Waves Bookmark is worked using a lightweight yarn (#3).  In the video I used a Paton’s Grace yarn by Yarnspirations.  You will need 3 colours, and only about eight yards of each.

The pattern is worked lengthwise using a 3.5 mm crochet hook and I have added a tassel to the end.  Somehow I have a hard time envisioning my bookmarks without tassels.

Following the free pattern written out in full below, you will also find a free video tutorial where I demonstrate how I make and attach my tassel.

Until next time, happy crocheting (and reading!)
