I love little crochet projects – especially ones that use up scraps and can be done in one sitting.  This cup cozy is perfect!

I think I’ve mentioned my love for coffee and tea at least a couple of times (such as here in my Country Coasters tutorial: Country Coasters – A Free Crochet Pattern) 😉 So continuing on my love of coffee and tea trend, I would like to introduce you to my “Get a Grip Cup Cozy.”

These cup cozies are quick to work up, take very little yarn and are practical.  It’s a great project to take on the road.  Sometimes I like to work on smaller items when I need a break from a more larger crochet blanket or more complicated item.

Throw a couple of these cup cozies in your purse or leave them in the car so that you’ll always have one on hand when going through the drive through.

I make my cup cozies out of worsted weight cotton – no particular brand, just use your favourite.  I use cotton because it is the best at protecting your hands from the heat, its great in the wash and dryer, and it keeps its shape relatively well.

The pattern is worked in a round and features one of my favourite stitches at the moment: a puff or a bead stitch.

Following the written pattern I will also include a free video tutorial.

If you are interested in the template for the cup cozy card I have included in my photos, it is a free template that can be found on the blog, Frogging Along – there are a lot of other great templates there as well if you are looking to make some of these up as gifts or to sell at craft fairs! You’ll find the templates here: Frogging Along Free Templates.
