The Crochet Thistle Stitch is a fun stitch to work! It is made up of double crochet stitches and works up quickly.
After your initial starting row, the patterns is a two row repeat which makes it easy to memorize. The resulting fabric is robust, but lacy in appearance. It is similar on both sides.
I believe that this crochet thistle stitch would make a beautiful light weight lacy throw blanket or scarf!

Materials:
For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Cotton Aran by Paintbox Yarns. It is an aran weight yarn and I will be working in the colour Slate Green. The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.
Thistle Stitch:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial. At the end of each row you will need to chain three and turn your work. The chain three counts as a stitch.
Don’t forget to check out the free video tutorial linked below!
To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains. For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of seven stitches, plus four stitches for your foundation chain.
For my swatch I will be making a foundation chain of 25 chain stitches.
Row One:
Double crochet into the fourth chain from your hook, * skip the next two stitches, work five double crochet stitches in your next chain.
Skip the next two stitches, work one double crochet stitch in each of the next two stitches.
Repeat from * all the way across. Chain three and turn your work.
Row Two:
Work two double crochet stitches into the first stitch at the base of the turning chain.
* Skip the next three stitches and now working in the space in between the third skipped stitch and the next stitch, work one double crochet stitch. Skip the next stitch and working in the space in between that skipped stitch and the next stitch, work one double crochet.
Skip the next three stitches, and in the space between the last skipped stitch and the next, work five double crochet stitches.
Repeat from * across, work three double crochet stitches in the top of the final turning chain. Chain 3 and turn your work.
Row Three:
Work one double crochet stitch in the space between the first stitch and the next stitch.
* Skip the next three stitches, work five double crochet stitches in the space between the last skipped stitch and the next.
Skip the next three stitches, working in the space in between the third skipped stitch and the next stitch, work one double crochet stitch. Skip the next stitch and working in the space in between that skipped stitch and the next stitch, work one double crochet.
Repeat from * across working your final double crochet stitch into the top of the turning chain.
Chain three and turn your work.
And that’s it!
For the remainder of the pattern, repeat rows two and three. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
