The Springtime Afghan Square crochet pattern celebrates one of my favourite seasons in a beautiful display of stitches: Spring!

There are so many reasons to love Spring in Canada! It’s the return of the warm sun after many days of cloud and snow.  We look forward to longer daylight hours and warmer days.  And we celebrate the return of spring flowers and blossoms.  It’s these blossoms that create the centre of the Springtime Afghan Square.

A textured crochet afghan square in purple, white and grey yarn

Our crochet afghan square today is worked in rounds beginning at the centre of the square.  You will waste no time in diving into the wonderful texture that creates the blossoms at the centre of the square.  Texture is carried throughout the square featuring puff stitches and post stitches.

For the square shown in the photos I have used the Red Heart Super Saver Yarn.  It is a medium/worsted weight yarn with a wide variety of colours available.  If the Super Saver is not available, you may try another worsted weight yarn such as the Vanna’s Choice yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. Along with the yarn you will need a 5 mm (J/10) crochet hook and you will see me using a Birchwood crochet hook by Rowan Yarns in the video below.

When I initially designed the square I worked it in a single colour, and then in the future squares, worked in three different patterns of colour.  The square looks gorgeous in one colour or many so don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit!

The Stash Busting Mystery Crochet Along by The Unraveled Mitten:

This crochet blanket square was also designed originally for the Stash Busting Mystery crochet along by The Unraveled Mitten.  This crochet along features a wonderful collection of original crochet blanket squares by a variety of crochet designers.  You will definitely want to check them out and can find all of the details about Heather’s crochet along here: The Stash Busting Mystery Crochet Along by The Unraveled Mitten.  This is only square six of twenty so there are still many more to come!
