The Sable Stitch crochet pattern is a design with a subtle texture that you are going to love!
The texture in the Sable stitch is not too overpowering and is gentle in appearance. It creates a solid fabric that is not too thick. It can also be worked using any multiple of stitches making it quite versatile and ready to be used in almost any crochet project.

The Materials:
For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in a single colour. It is a worsted-weight yarn. You could also work this pattern in two or more colours. I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook. In the video tutorial below you will see me working with a Birchwood Crochet Hook by Rowan. However, you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.
Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the beautiful Jackpot Stitch Crochet Pattern.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a solid colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you may use any number of stitches for your foundation chain.
For example, ch 31.
Row One:
Hhdc (see “Stitches and Abbreviations”) in the 4th ch from your hook and into each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two:
Sl st in the 1st st, *ch 1, sl st in the next st; rpt from * across. Ch 2, turn.
Row Three:
Working in the blo all the way across, sk the 1st sl st and ch-1, hhdc in the next sl st and in each sl st across (skipping the ch-1 sps) across (you will skip the 1st sl st and ch-1). Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern, simply repeat rows two and three for the pattern. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
