The Field Stitch crochet pattern is a wonderful solid stitch with a spiked stitch texture! It is perfect for those warmer projects like blankets and sweaters!

The Field Stitch crochet is pattern is also quite dense however, so depending on the yarn that you use, you may find the fabric stiff. The other thing to note about this stitch pattern is that the design that the spike stitches create is all to the front side.

The Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in a single colour. It is a worsted-weight yarn. You could also work this pattern in two or more colours. I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook. In the video tutorial below you will see me working with a Birchwood Crochet Hook by Rowan. However, you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the beautiful Sable Stitch Crochet Pattern.

Pattern Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a solid colour.

This pattern is written in American crochet terms.

To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need a multiple of four stitches for your foundation chain.

For example, ch 24.

Row One:

Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

Row Two:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

Row Three:

Sc in the 1st st, *CL beginning by inserting your hook into the st directly below the previous st 3 rows below then complete the st as per the “Stitches and Abbreviations” above, sc in each of the next 3 sts; Rpt from * across to the final st, sc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.

Row Four:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, you will simply repeat rows 3 and 4. Fasten off, and weave in your ends.
