The Primrose Crochet Beanie is the first hat featured in the Wonderful Hats Crochet Along!

Welcome! I am so excited to be starting this crochet along with you! In the past I have only hosted crochet alongs making blankets, but I love the idea of focusing on one small project each week.  This is why I decided to tackle a few hats with you!

Hats are fun, trendy and easy to personalize.  So, if you have not heard of the Wonderful Hats Crochet along yet, I invite you to take a quick browse through this introduction post: Hats, hats, Wonderful Hats! Free Crochet Along.

This is week one of the Wonderful Hats Crochet Along.  Today we will learn how to make the Primrose Beanie.

Crochet Beanie

Materials:

For this crochet beanie, I will be using one ball of the Patons Canadiana Yarn by Yarnspirations.  I will be pairing it with a 5 mm crochet hook.  For those curious about the hook that I show in my video today, it is a handmade hook of Birchwood made by the River John Needle Company in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Design:

Lately I have been loving the primrose stitch! Recently I used the stitch in my Spring Blossom Throw: Primrose Crochet Afghan Square.

It’s an easy stitch to master.  It is a simple two row repeat featuring some single and double crochet stitches.

The Primrose Beanie is worked from the bottom/brim up.  The brim of the hat is worked in rows and I have used slip stitches to work my ribbing, but you may choose to use a single crochet stitch, or even a half double crochet stitch instead.

The Construction:

After the brim is complete, we will work on the body of the hat which features the primrose pattern.  The hat body is worked in rounds.  At the top of the hat, after you quickly sew it closed, you are welcome to add a pompom of your choice, or even leave it without! Both options look great!

PDF Copies are available:

I will write out the pattern in full below and will follow it with a free video tutorial.  But for those of you who wish, you may also find a PDF copy of the pattern available for purchase in my Etsy and Ravelry Shops linked below:

Yay! I’ll go take a look!

  3. Jenny Scinicariello says:

93 stitches around seems like a lot. Do I still do that amount even if I do the sc brim?

    1. RichTexturesCrochet says:

Yes you do, if you need to change the multiple because you find it too big, you’ll need multiples of 3

    2. Agreed. WAY too many. I tried and it made a completely wavy and unmanageable mess of it. Frogged it and did 63 and it looks better.

      1. So glad I found this comment. This is my second hat following these particular patterns, the first one SWAMPED my husband’s head it was so big. Started this one and had the same issue. Cut the stitch count down to 69 to make a SLIGHTLY loose hat and it’s working much better. Really glad I’m not the only one.

  4. Angie Becker says:

End 16 seems to have some errors it says ([sc, ch 2, sc] in the next st) three times, but it doesn’t say to sk 2 sts between each sts, [sc, ch 2, sc]. So it says to put (sc, ch2, sc) in the next 3 sts in a row. I know to skip the 2 DC sts because of the patter previously but someonme new to crochet may not.
