This crochet pocket shawl is so cozy! Made with Bernat Velvet Yarn, you’ll love wearing it around the house or giving it as a gift to that special someone who needs some comfort!

I love the Bernat Velvet yarns! This is not the first design I’ve done with this yarn.  Earlier this year I designed the Velvet Headband Crochet Pattern and the Velvet Mittens Crochet Pattern and I look forward to also bringing you a crochet blanket design.

The Design:

The yarn is so soft and has a great drape and weight when it’s worked up so it makes itself a great choice for a comfy crochet pocket shawl!

Crochet Pocket Shawl

This crochet pocket shawl is a simple rectangular design worked in the sedge stitch.  The shawl can be worked in two colours as I have done or in one solid colour.  It is constructed in three pieces: the shawl body and two pockets that are sewn on after completion.

Pockets for a special keepsake!

The pockets are a good size, about 8 x 9 inches – the perfect size to hold a special photo, journal, or hands! I see this shawl being a great gift as a prayer shawl to someone needing comfort in a hospital or long term care home.

In total I used about 3.5 balls of the Bernat Crushed Velvet along with a 6.5 mm crochet hook.  I will be using a Wooden Streamline Hook in Ebony by Furls Crochet!

Can you use other types of yarn?

Hello Priscilla, yes you can! The Bernat Velvet is a bulky weight yarn (#5) so I would choose something with a similar weight 🙂
