The Rack Crochet stitch pattern is a lacy design. This stitch features shells in various sizes.

There are three different size shells in this pattern and they are separated between rows of double crochet stitch.

Th resulting fabric is pretty and interesting to look at. I believe it would make a beautiful lacy cardigan or shawl.

The Crochet Rack Stitch

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Cotton Aran by Paintbox Yarns. It is an aran weight yarn. The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Crochet Rack Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.  At the end of each row you will need to chain three and turn your work. The chain three counts as a double crochet stitch.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of seven stitches, plus four stitches for your foundation chain.

For my swatch I will be making a foundation chain of 25 chain stitches.

Row One:

Double crochet into the fourth chain from your hook.

*Skip the next two chains and work three double crochet, chain one and three more double crochet all into the same chain.

Skip the next two chains and double crochet in each of the next two chains.

Repeat from * all the way across. Chain three and turn.

Row Two:

Double crochet into the next stitch, *skip the next two double crochet, double crochet into the next double crochet.

Chain one, work one double crochet, chain one and double crochet into the next chain space.

Chain one, double crochet into the next double crochet. Skip two double crochet and double crochet in each of the next two double crochet stitches.

Repeat from * across and work the final double crochet into the top of the turning chain. Chain three and turn your work.

Row Three:

Double crochet into the next stitch, * skip the next chain space and work two double crochet, chain three and two double crochet into the next chain space.

Skip the next double crochet, chain one and double crochet and work one double crochet into each of the next two double crochet stitches.

Repeat from * across. Chain three and turn your work.

Row Four:

Double crochet into the next double crochet, * work three double crochet, chain one and three double crochet into the next chain three space.

Skip the next two double crochet, work one double crochet into each of the next two double crochet stitches.

Repeat from * across, chain three and turn your work.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern you will repeat rows two to four until you have reached your desired length. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
