The Suzette Stitch is a beautiful stitch! I can’t wait to teach you how to work it in this crochet stitch tutorial!

Hello and welcome to Rich Textures Crochet! Today we are going to learn how to crochet the Suzette Stitch.

Suzette Stitch1

The Suzette Stitch is a beautiful stitch! The end result is a fabric that is similar on both sides.  This makes it a great contender for projects like blankets and shawls.  It would make a pretty cardigan or handbag! You can let me know how you would use it after this tutorial in the comments.

The Suzette Stitch pattern is an easy design.  After you get the foundation row worked, it is a simple one row repeat.  The pattern is made up of single crochet and double crochet stitches.

I have worked several crochet patterns using the Suzette Stitch. You may wish to check out the Suzette Bookmark if your are looking for a smaller project. If you are looking for a beautiful set that would make a great gift, then I recommend the Winterberry Hat and the Winterberry Scarf crochet patterns.

Materials:

For this tutorial I will be using the Caron x Pantone yarn by Yarnspirations along with a 5.5 mm crochet hook.  The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet.

For this pattern you may us any yarn and hook combination of your choice! I think the pattern would lend itself well to both the finer and bulkier weights of yarn.

Suzette Stitch | How to Crochet

This pattern is worked in rows.

To begin, make a foundation chain.  Your foundation chain can be any odd multiple of stitches.

Today, for my sample, I will chain 21 chains.

    Row 1:

Beginning in the second chain from your hook, work one single crochet stitch and one double crochet stitch (both in the same stitch.  Skip the next chain, single crochet and double crochet in the next stitch.

Repeat that all the way across: skip the next chain, then single and double crochet in the next stitch.  When you come to your final chain, single crochet in the final stitch.

Chain one and turn your work.  You are now ready to begin row two!

    Row 2:

Into the first single crochet stitch work one single crochet and one double crochet stitch.  Skip the next double crochet.  Into the next single crochet, work one single crochet and one double crochet stitch.

Repeat all the way across: skip the next double crochet, and single and double crochet in the next single crochet stitch.  When you come to your final stitch, single crochet in the last stitch.

Chain one and turn your work.

And that is all their is to working the Suzette stitch! For now you are going to repeat that last row for as long as you would like the pattern to continue.

It’s that easy! And the end result is so pretty!

Hi Sarah! I have been looking for over a year for a crochet pattern that is christening blanket worthy to be our family heirloom. I realize it is going to take a long time to complete but I want to use Aunt Lydia’s #10 cotton thread using a 1.5 stainless steel hook. I am 77 yrs old and my grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was about 9 yrs old with this thread and a stainless hook. I have crocheted baby blankets in the Suzette stitch with acrylic yarn but think the pattern may be too dense for a christening blanket. I want a pattern that is a little open but not too full of holes because of those searching little fingers. Will you suggest some patterns for me?
