Hello and welcome! Today we are going to learn how to crochet the Cozy Latte Mittens! They are quick to make and super soft – I’m sure you’ll love them!

As the cold weather approaches, I love to bring out my cozy mittens and these ones are no exception! Worked in the Caron Latte Cakes they are super soft giving them a great feel.  Of course you may substitute this yarn for another of your choice.

Easy Crochet Mittens:

These mittens are simple, employing simple stitches such as the half double crochet (a favourite of mine!) and slip stitch.  The ribbing for the cuff is worked first in rows, and then the rest of the mitten is worked in rounds.  Both mittens are worked exactly the same, there is no difference between the left and right!

For my mittens, I did cut the Caron cakes in places in order to ensure that my two mittens were exactly the same colour wise.  In the instructions you will also see that before working the top of the mitten, I cut the yarn and worked the thumb to make sure that the thumb would be the same colour as the body of the mitten.  As always, though, feel free to be creative with your own colour schemes!

The Caron Latte Set:

This pattern is the third in a set which includes a puff stitch slouch hat and easy button up cowl.  All three patterns include video tutorials and can be made using only two Latte Cakes!

Pattern Notes:
– Pattern is written in American English terms.
– Pattern is worked in rounds, except for cuff which is worked in rows.
– Ch 1 at beg of row does not count as stitch.
– Weave in ends as needed.
– Remember to move stitch marker up as work progresses.
– In order to get my mittens to match as far as the colour changes are concerned, when I started the second mitten I started at the same colour change in the cake as I had for the first. This meant that I needed to cut a few colors out of the cake in order to get the one needed.

Pattern (Make two):

Cuff:

Ch 11.
Row 1: Sl St in the 2nd ch from hook and in each across. Turn. (10 sl sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, working in the blo, sl st in each st across. Turn. (10 sl sts)

Repeat row 2 until work from the beginning measures approximately 7 inches. Do not fasten off, but fold cuff of mitten so that two shorter ends meet. Now working through both thicknesses, sl st across working through the blo on each side. Do not fasten off, turn work right side out (so that the right side is facing you).

Mitten:

Rnd 1: Ch 1, evenly work 25 hdc all the way around; join in the 1st st with a sl st. Do not turn. (25 sts)

Rnds 2-5: Ch 1, hdc in each stitch all the way around; join in the 1st st with a sl st. Do not turn.

Rnd 6: Ch 1, hdc in each st all the way around to the last, 2 hdc in the last st; join in the 1st st with a sl st. Do not turn. (26 sts)

Rnd 7: Repeat rnd 6 once more. (27 sts)

Rnd 8: Ch 1, hdc in each st around until the last 3 sts, ch 2, sk the last 3 sts and sl st in the first st to join. Thumb opening made. (24 sts)

Rnd 9: Ch 1, hdc in each st and ch all the way around, join with a sl st in the 1st st. Fasten off, weave in ends. (26 sts)

Proceed as follows for thumb:

In thumb opening, join yarn with a sl st in any st.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 9 hdc evenly all the way around thumb opening; join with a sl st in the first st, do not turn. (9 hdc)

Rnds 2-8: Ch 1, hdc in each st around; join with a sl st in the first st.

Fasten off leaving a long tail. Turn mitten inside out and using remaining tail, sew top of thumb closed. Fasten off, weave in ends. Turn mitten right side out once again.

Proceed as follows for rest of mitten:

Join yarn with a sl st in same space as joining for rnd 9 of mitten.

Rnd 10: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, do not join or turn but place st marker in the first st and move as work progesses.

Rnds 11-16: Hdc in each st around.

Rnd 17: hdc2tog, hdc in each of the next 11 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in each of the last 10 sts. (23 sts)

Rnd 18: hdc2tog, hdc in each of the next 10 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in each of the last 9 sts. (21 sts)

Rnd 19: hdc2tog, hdc in each of the next 9 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in each of the last 8 sts. (19 sts)

Rnd 20: hdc2tog, hdc in each of the next 8 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in each of the last 7 sts. (17 sts)

Rnd 21: hdc2tog, hdc in each of the next 7 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in each of the last 6 sts. (15 sts)

Fasten of leaving a long tail. Turn work inside out. Using the long tail remaining, sew top of mitten closed. Fasten off and weave in ends. Turn work right side out once again. Repeat above steps for second mitten.
