Waves of Passion Throw – A Free Crochet Pattern

If you are passionate about chevron then this blanket is for you! It features lots of texture and style. Worked in bulky weight yarn it works up quickly.

I love the softness of bulky weight yarns.  And I love how they exaggerate even the simplest of textures.  The super bulky weight yarn makes this texture pop!

This is only my second time working with a chevron stitch.  I can remember a number of years ago trying my hand at a chevron blanket in a worsted weight yarn and although I enjoyed it I found it slow going and it took me a little bit to get the points to line up.

My experience with this one was much different.  The Bulky weight yarn, while it meant that there were less stitches to count, also created a sturdier fabric.  It was much easier to work with.

The Caron Chunky Cake yarn, which is self stripping, created some fabulous waves of colour (And less ends for me to ultimately weave in!).  Of course, you may work this blanket in any super bulky weight yarn (#6 weight on label) and don’t be afraid to stitch up the colour so that it suits your own personal style!

Bpdc – Back Post Double Crochet (Yo, insert hook from in back of your work, from right to left around the post of the stitch indicated, yo, draw through 2 loops, yo draw through 2 loops).
Bpdc2tog – Back Post Double Crochet 2 Together
Bpdc3tog – Back Post Double Crochet 3 Together
Bpdc5tog – Back Post Double Crochet 5 Together
Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
Dc2tog – Double Crochet two together
Dc3tog – Double Crochet three together
Dc5tog – Double crochet five together
Fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet (Yo, insert hook from in front of your work, from right to left around the post of the stitch indicated, yo, draw through 2 loops, yo draw through 2 loops).

Pattern:

Ch 164.

Row 1: Sk the first 3 ch, dc2tog over the next 2 chs (Counts as a dc3tog), * dc in each of the next 5 ch, [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in the next ch, dc in each of the next 5 ch **, dc5tog over the next 5 chs; rpt from * ending last rpt at ** when 3 ch remain, dc3tog over the last 3 sts.  Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, sk 1st st, bpdc2tog over next 2 sts (all counts as bpdc3tog), * fpdc around each of the next 5 sts, [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] into the next ch sp, fpdc around each of the next 5 sts **, bpdc5tog over next 5 sts; rpt from * ending last rpt at ** when 3 sts remain, bp3tog over last 3 sts. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, sk 1st st, fpdc2tog over next 2 sts (All counts as fpdc3tog), * bpdc around each of the next 5 sts, [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] into the next ch sp, bpdc around each of the next 5 sts **, fpdc5tog over the next 5 sts; rpt from * ending last rpt at ** when 3 sts remain, fpdc3tog over the last 3 sts. Turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until blanket measures 64 inches.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Optional: Using 10th ball of yarn, make tassels and affix to
each point on the ends of the blanket.
**Would you like to modify the size of this blanket? Pattern requires a multiple of 16 sts + 1 (then add 2 sts for your starting chain).
