Ginger Spice Fingerless Gloves – A Free Pattern

I decided to design a quick pair of fingerless gloves to go with the Ginger Spice Slouch hat and Cowl set.

After making the set I discovered that I had just a little bit of one cake left (about 200 yds), just enough to make a pair!

Again, for this set, if you would like you can substitute the Caron Tea Cake for the Bernat Softee Chunky (Which is %100 acrylic) or any other super bulky weight yarn.  You will need about 200-250 yards to complete the set.  My two gloves were different colours because I let the left over yarn from my cake dictate the colour, but with a little cutting and pasting you can create two identical in colour gloves from a cake.

The pattern includes two sizes: small/medium and large/extra large.  They are super quick to make up and are perfect for this time of year!

Ginger Spice Fingerless Gloves:

Skill Level: Easy

Finished Sizes:
           Small/Medium: 6.5 inches tall, 10 inches around widest point of hand.                                   Large/Extra Large: 8 inches tall, 11 inches around widest point of hand.

Yarn: 1 Cake of Caron Tea Cakes by Yarnspirations™ (%80 acrylic/%20 wool, 8.5 oz. skein, 204 yds). Super Bulky Weight. Colour: Ginger Spice.

**alternative yarn: Bernat Softee Chunky by Yarnspirations™.  1 Ball or about 108 yards. (%100 Acrylic, 108 yds/99 m, 3.5 oz/100g)

Hook: Size L-11 (8 mm) Hook. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Notions: Yarn Needle

Gauge: 2 ks x 2 ks = 1 inch

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Ch – Chain
Hdc – Half double crochet
Knit Stitch (ks) – Also called the “waistcoat stitch,” the knit stitch is a single crochet worked through the middle of the single crochet or knit stitch of the previous round.  Because you are working your stitch through the middle of the stitch in the previous round and pulling your loop up through the center, a knit look is created.
Rpt – Repeat
Sc – Single Crochet
Sk – Skip
Sl st – Slip stitch

 Pattern Notes:

• Pattern is written in American English terms.
• Pattern is worked in rounds from the bottom of hat to the top.
• Ch 1 at beg of rnd does not count as sc or hdc.
• Weave in ends as needed.
• I find the knit stitch works best when your tension is kept quite loose. Loose stitches allow for you to insert the hook in the proper space more easily.
• To work in the 3^rd loop: In the hdc stitch, the “third loop” is found at the back of the stitch, below the top two loops that you would normally complete your stitch in.  When you crochet in this back loop, it should push the top of the stitch from the previous round to the front of your work creating a “knit” look.

Pattern:
Small/Medium – make two:

Ch 16.  Being careful not to twist ch, join with a sl st in first chain to make a round.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc in each ch around.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  (16 hdc).

Rnd 2: Ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, hdc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in the first hdc. (16 hdc).

Rnds 3-4: Repeat Rnd 2 (16 hdc).

Rnd 5: Ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, loosely sc in in each st around.  Join with a sl st.  (16 sc).

Rnds 6-8: Ch 1, ks in each sc around.  Join with a sl st. (16 ks)

Rnd 9: Ch 1, 2 ks in first st, ks in the next 14 sts, 2 ks in the last st.  Join with a sl st.  (18 ks)

Rnd 10: Ch 1, working in the same space in stitch of previous row that you would work for a ks, hdc in each st around.  Join with a sl st.  (18 hdc).

Rnd 11: Ch 1, sl st in the next 2 sts, ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, hdc in the same st and in the next 13 sts, ch 2, sk 3 sts, join with a sl st in the first hdc. (14 hdc).

Rnd 12: Ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, hdc in each st and ch around.  Join with a sl st in the first hdc. (16 hdc).

Rnd 13: Ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, hdc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in the first hdc. (16 hdc).

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

 

Large/Extra Large – make two:

Ch 18.  Being careful not to twist ch, join with a sl st in first chain to make a round.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc in each ch around.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  (18 hdc).

Rnd 2: Ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, hdc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in the first hdc. (18 hdc).

Rnds 3-5: Repeat Rnd 2 (18 hdc).

Rnd 6: Ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, loosely sc in in each st around.  Join with a sl st.  (16 sc).

Rnds 7-10: Ch 1, ks in each sc around.  Join with a sl st. (16 ks)

Rnd 11: Ch 1, 2 ks in first st, ks in the next 16 sts, 2 ks in the last st.  Join with a sl st.  (20 ks)

Rnd 12: Ch 1, working in the same space in stitch of previous row that you would work for a ks, hdc in each st around.  Join with a sl st.  (20 hdc).

Rnd 13: Ch 1, sl st in the next 2 sts, ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, hdc in the same st and in the next 15 sts, ch 2, sk 3 sts, join with a sl st in the first hdc. (16 hdc).

Rnd 14: Ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, hdc in each st and ch around.  Join with a sl st in the first hdc. (18 hdc).

Rnds 15-16: Ch 1, working in the 3^rd loop, hdc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in the first hdc. (18 hdc).
