You’re going to love the texture of this rustic beanie made with a bulky weight yarn called Canoe by Sugar Bush Yarns!

As you can see, the pattern for the hat is part of a set – the cowl you can find here: Rustic River Cowl – Free Crochet Pattern

As winter approaches (and Christmas!) it’s always nice to freshen up your wardrobe, or the wardrobe of someone else, with new winter accessories.

This hat, worked in a bulky weight yarn will work up quickly.  The yarn that I chose for this project is called “Canoe” by Sugar Bush Yarns.  It is so squishy and easy to fall in love with! It is soft, has a great texture and the flecks of colour add another unique dimension to your crochet projects.

If you’d like to know more about Sugar Bush Yarns, you can find their website (along with a shop finder) here: https://www.sugarbushyarns.com/yarn/canoe.html

Definitely check them out, with their wide selection of colours and fibres you won’t be disappointed!

This hat features a variety of some of my favourite stitches including post and puff stitches which is why I have graded it as an intermediate pattern.  A free video tutorial can be found at the bottom, after the written pattern!

For the hat you will need about 1.5 skeins (or about 150 yards) of yarn and an 8 mm crochet hook.  The pompom I’ve added to the top of mine is, of course, optional!

Happy Crocheting!

  6. Hello! I just found a few balls of Sugarbush Canoe and thought I’d try your hat. I can meet gauge for width with an 8 mm but nit height. Going up to a 9 mm makes the width wider and I’m still very short on the height for the swatch. Can you please confirm? Thank you!
